Asterios Polyp (6points)

Asterios Polyp was really interesting to me because the coloring style is very different from what I've seen from other graphic novels. The coloring style reminds me a lot of risograph artwork, albeit with slightly different colors. Asterios Polyp initially confused me with some aspects of it's story. It took me a while to understand that some aspects of the story were told by the stillborn twin of the main character. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed reading it, and seeing the amounts of small details. The character design of the characters are incredibly interesting and tell a lot of about the characters without having to have them describe themselves. Asterios is super angular and rigid looking, which matches his personality to a tee. It's also fitting since he's an architect, and his work involves rigid structures. Daisy, on the other hand, it much more bubbly with curvy lines and flowy clothing. It's also worth noting that Daisy's face seems representative of some of her personality. She's an idealist, and curious, so she has big glittery eyes to match. It could be worth noting that Asterios maybe saw her as naive, but in reality her face is contrasting to her intellect. She's not naive. In addition, the speech bubbles are also reflective of who's speaking. Asterio's speech bubbles are square, while Daisy's are bubbly. This contrast of Asterios and Daisy is repeated throughout the novel as more allegories pop up. It seems the general theme of the novel is to present the idea of duality.
