Une Semaine de Bonte (1 point)

When I initially read the series of images, it seemed quite similar to Francisco Goya's The Black Paintings series. The Black Paintings were a series of paintings done by Goya during the latter part of his life, where he was isolated from the outside world and slowly going deaf and blind. The paintings each hold their own story, but can be connected by common themes

Une Semaine de Bonte is seemingly tied together by a couple of iconographies: Women, roosters, and stone-faced men. The first half has the roosters being a sign of misfortune/death for women. In the first couple of images, the rooster accompanies the women in being placed at a funeral alter and then in the ground. The later has the roosters being the cause of death for women in some way or another. The stone-faced men in the later images seem to treat women unfairly, and by the end, the stone-faced man is in distress.
